Do you and your pupils want to join a growing movement in Merseyside linking fashion trends and textile waste to climate change?
An estimated 20,000 tonnes of textiles are discarded from households each year in the Liverpool City Region, a lot of which could still be used. In their third year of collaboration, Liverpool World Centre, Faiths4Change and Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority are bringing The Great Clothes Swap to the region. This project will change perceptions and behaviour towards clothing repair and reuse, in order to divert textiles from landfill and increase awareness of the circular economy.
The objectives of The Great Swap Shop are
- Empowering students with the knowledge, skills and confidence to promote behaviour change in their school
- Engaging schools to generate both systemic change in attitudes at a school level, and individual behaviour change
- Increasing skills and confidence of teachers to promote behaviour change around textile recycling and reuse
- Creating opportunities for pupils to participate in UN-style conferences around textile waste and climate change to boost pupils’ confidence and demonstrate their knowledge
The project runs from October ’22 – March ’23 and is open to primary and secondary schools in Liverpool, Sefton, Knowsley, St Helens and Wirral.
