In 2025, the Department of History at the University of Liverpool approached us. They had heard about our work on Schools Citizens Assemblies, and wondered if we could adapt the processes to bring a particular research project to life for young people, and extend the impact of that research beyond academia. Of course we said ‘Yes!’…

A year on, and we’re still basking in the afterglow of what was a truly beautiful event, bringing together young people with nuclear test veterans, scientists, academics, and indigenous peoples impacted by the tests. Alongside this, we developed a suite of workshop sessions designed for teachers, that sit alongside the oral histories and other resources created by the project (available on the British Library website).
