In 2025, the Department of History at the University of Liverpool approached us. They had heard about our work on Schools Citizens Assemblies, and wondered if we could adapt the processes to bring their ‘Nuclear Test Veterans Oral Histories’ research project to life for young people. Of course we said ‘Yes!’… The university worked alongside our team, and also with comic book artist Gareth Sleightholme (to whom full credit for the image above goes).
A year on, and we’re still smiling about what was a truly beautiful event, bringing together young people with nuclear test veterans, scientists, academics, and indigenous peoples impacted by the tests. See our event report at the bottom of the page.
We also developed a suite of workshop resources for schools. These sit alongside the oral histories and other resources (on the British Library website).
